This week I traveled to Palestine
January 19, 2024
This week I travelled with 4 other MPs to Jordan, Jerusalem and the West Bank to hear from Palestinians and workers in agencies helping on the ground, and to explore what Canadians and our government can do to assist.
Monday started with briefings by Canada's Ambassador to Jordan, Tarik Ali Khan, and Islamic Relief Jordan.
UNWRA staff introduced us to student parliamentarians at their school for Palestinian refugees.
Then we went on to refugee camps to meet with and hear directly from Palestinian refugees.
Tuesday, we went to Jerusalem.
We were briefed by David Da Silva, Representative of Canada to the Palestinian Authority,
met with "Breaking the Silence"
and visited Al-Makassed Hospital.
That evening I visited the Al-Aqsa compound and prayed at the Dome of the Rock for all those suffering.
Wednesday, we travelled to the West Bank cities of Hebron and Bethlehem.
We visited a Palestinian refugee family,
a soup kitchen,
and the Aida Youth Centre in the Aida Refugee Camp.
Thursday, we travelled back across the border to Amman, Jordan and debriefed on the trip.
Today, we're on our way back to Canada, and looking forward to sharing our learnings with our colleagues at the National Liberal Caucus Retreat just before we return to the House of Commons.
