Saturday, December 3rd is the International Day of Persons with Disabilities
December 3, 2022
Today, we are joining Canadians from coast to coast to coast and around the world in celebrating the 30th anniversary of International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
For more than a generation, we have celebrated a day that is solely dedicated to persons with disabilities.
Persons with disabilities are a vibrant and talented community whose many contributions have helped shape this country.
When every single person has the opportunity to participate fully, the country and economy are stronger. That’s why our government is committed to continuing to advance the rights of persons with disabilities in Canada.
We are continuing to build on steps we have taken since 2015 to make Canada truly inclusive, including through the Accessible Canada Act that became law in 2019.
Recently, we released Canada’s first-ever Disability Inclusion Action Plan – a blueprint for change that will challenge the Government of Canada and the networks and systems we operate in to do better.
A cornerstone of the Action Plan is the Canada Disability Benefit – a federal income supplement for working-age persons with disabilities designed to lift so many out of poverty.
In the spirit of “Nothing Without Us”, we will continue working with the disability community to build a better and truly inclusive Canada – for everyone.
