Making Life More Affordable This Year: Dental Care for Children
September 22, 2022
Across the country, Canadians are struggling with the high cost of gas and groceries. That’s why the first thing we did when Parliament resumed was table legislation to help make life more affordable for Canadians; putting more money back in the pockets of those who need it most. Starting this year, we are providing up to $1,300 over the next two years for dental care for children under 12.
Good oral healthcare is key to overall well being – yet one-third of our population doesn’t have dental insurance. This new benefit is a first step in our plan for a Canada-wide dental care program to help close this gap and strengthen Canada’s public healthcare system.
This targeted relief builds off the steps we’ve already taken this year, like reducing child care fees by an average of 50% across the country by the end of this year and raising the Canada Workers Benefit to put up to $2,400 more into the pockets of families who need it most.
We’re also:
- Delivering $500 to nearly 2 million low-income renters who are struggling with the cost of housing.
- Doubling the GST tax credit for six months. This means an extra $234 in the pockets of single Canadians without children and up to $467 for couples with two children, and an average of an extra $225 for seniors this year.
