Call for Proposals to assist Unions with Investments in Training Equipment
September 6, 2022
Last week, Minister Carla Qualtrough launched a call for proposals under Stream 1 of the
Union Training and Innovation Program (UTIP) – Investments in Training Equipment.
Up to $10 million is being invested in 2022–2023 for projects that provide unions with up to 50% of the cost of new training equipment and materials. Successful projects will support unions across the country in improving the quality of training in Red Seal trades that registered apprentices and pre-apprentices receive. These projects will also support the development of environmental skills for Canada’s transition to a clean economy.
Through Budget 2022 investments in the UTIP were doubled to $84.2 million over four years. This will support an additional 3,500 apprentices from underrepresented groups, including more women, newcomers, persons with disabilities, Indigenous people and racialized Canadians, in accessing good-quality jobs in high-paying skilled trades.
This UTIP call for proposals also supports the new Canadian Apprenticeship Strategy announced in Budget 2019 which builds on the success of existing programs to strengthen apprenticeship supports for Canadians while allowing the Government to be more flexible and responsive to the needs of apprentices and those seeking work in the skilled trades.
The deadline for organizations to submit is
October 12, 2022 at 3:00PM (ET).
