Canadians deserve to feel safe in their communities. Inaction on gun control has a tragic price.
In 2019, we banned 1,500 military-style assault firearms and we strengthened gun control.
Our new Bill C-21 marks the most significant progress on gun reform in a generation.
Bill C-21 marks the most significant progress on gun reform in a generation, including:
• Implementing a national freeze on handguns;
• Taking away the firearms licences of those involved in acts of domestic violence or criminal harassment;
• Increasing criminal penalties and providing more tools for law enforcement to investigate firearms crimes;
• Criminalizing illegal modification of magazines to hold more than the legal limit of ammunition; and, Criminalising illegal modification of magazines to hold more than the legal limit of ammunition; and,
• Requiring individuals who are considered a danger to themselves or others to surrender their firearms.
