As co-chair, together with Senator Victor Oh, of the Canada-Kazakhstan Parliamentary Friendship Group I would like to thank Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Canada Akylbek Kamaldinov for hosting a diplomatic reception as part of a series of events dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Kazakhstan and Canada.
As the Ambassador noted, since the establishment of relations in 1992, our two countries have been developing friendly and mutually beneficial cooperation in political, economic and humanitarian spheres.
The Ambassador briefed us on the comprehensive package of reforms to modernize his country's political system and the fundamental political change, social and economic reforms initiated by Kazakhstan President Tokayev.
Our group's members responded with expressions of support for continuation of the further democratization of Kazakhstan.
