April 14, 2022
April 14 is Vaisakhi. The harvest festival marks several important events including the start of the harvest season in Punjab and the founding of the Khalsa by Guru Gobind Singh in 1699. Usually, Vaisakhi is celebrated by gathering at local Gurdwaras to pray and read from the sacred scripture and with grand parades through the streets. Many Sikhs also choose to be baptised into the Khalsa brotherhood on this day. Canada has a large and vibrant Sikh population. Vaisakhi is a time to celebrate the important contributions that Sikh Canadians make to our country and to learn about Sikhism’s rich traditions and teachings of equality, unity, and Seva - selfless service. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh.
