Mr. Speaker,
Congratulations to the people of Ghana as they celebrate the 65
th anniversary of independence this Sunday.
Like Canada, Ghana is a member of the Commonwealth. It was the first country in Sub-Saharan Africa to achieve independence from Britain, and one of the first countries in Africa to establish diplomatic relations with Canada.
Like Canada, Ghana is blessed with abundant human and natural resources.
Like Canada, Ghana’s nearly 33 million people comprise diverse ethnic, linguistic, and religious groups, living in a stable and peaceful parliamentary democracy.
Like Canada, its people take pride in their country’s healthcare, economic growth, and human development.
Mr. Speaker, I invite the members of this House and all Canadians to join with the people of Ghana in celebrating Ghana Independence Day, this Sunday, March 6
th.
Thank you, Mr. Speaker.
