The Online Streaming Act

Canadian broadcasters play by one set of rules. And streaming platforms play by another. There should be one set of rules for everyone.
We’ve been clear since the beginning: if you benefit from the system, you should contribute to it.
Yesterday, Minister Rodriguez tabled Bill C-11, the Online Streaming Act, delivering on our commitment to update Canada’s broadcasting framework for the digital era.
For decades, our system has guaranteed the creation of Canadian movies, TV shows, and music that make us proud. Today, streaming platforms benefit from access to the Canadian market, but have zero responsibility towards Canadian artists and creators.
With our online streaming bill, we’re asking online streamers to showcase and contribute to the creation of Canadian culture.
