National Day of Remembrance of the Quebec City Mosque Attack and Action Against Islamophobia
January 29, 2022
On January 29th, 2017, worshippers at the Centre Culturel Islamique de Québec were attacked in the worst act of Islamophobic violence in this country’s history and the worst act of anti-religious violence towards any religious group in a generation. May we never forget those who were killed and all of the families whose lives were changed forever.
Their names were Ibrahima Barry, Mamadou Tanou Barry, Khaled Belkacemi, Abdelkrim Hassane, Azzeddine Soufiane and Aboubaker Thabti.
They were fathers, husbands, friends, colleagues, and Muslims. Their deaths were heartbreaking for their loved ones, for Muslim communities around the world and for Canadians.
Islamophobia, hatred and the denial of these realities are the root of this horrifying crime.
We honour the victims and stand in solidarity with the families and survivors of this tragedy.
January 29 is now the National Day of Remembrance of the Quebec City Mosque Attack and Action Against Islamophobia.
